Common resident and partial altitudinal migrant in all the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan. Occurs in broadleaved evergreen and mixed deciduous forest; often in gorges and ravines, also in town and villages. Breeds at 1000-4000m.
Behavior:
Feeds on damp ground, moving in long hops and turning over leaf litter, listening for movement, or picking its way along muddy margins and in shallow water; often forages along interstices of screes and talus, and digs vigorously in soft ground. Eats invertebrates such as water beetles, ants, insect larvae, slugs, snails, froglets and earthworms; also berries and seeds.
